VoIP & Video
If you have a VoIP project… You need Ipanema!
If you have a Voice over IP (VoIP) or IP Telephony (IPT) project, many will tell you that your WAN needs to be completely re-invented with a new dimensioning, a new technology or even a new service.
According to Jeffrey Snyder, the Chief Analyst of IP Telephony at the Gartner Group, 85% of existing networks are not ready for IP telephony.
The list of requirements and recommendations from VoIP vendors can be overwhelming:
- Latency and packet loss must be low enough on the WAN to support voice coding technologies
- Prioritization must be put in place in order to protect the VoIP flows
- The VoIP call patterns must be precisely identified
- The existing WAN utilization must be known and peaks of traffic must not exceed 75% of link capacity
- The existing traffic patterns must be accurately distinguished
- Congestion points in the WAN must be recognized
It’s a proven fact that VoIP/IPT is more demanding on the network than any other application.
VoIP flows have the particularity of being real-time. For traditional flows, a lack of network resources results in the deterioration of the response time. For VoIP, this results in the service being unavailable. Certain network-related technical parameters such as delay, jitter and packet loss become fundamental. IPT flows are also typically peer-to-peer, thus creating meshed traffic that is not easily handled by typical QoS solutions. With VoIP or IPT, the unpredictable nature of the WAN is no longer acceptable, and neither is the lack of visibility.
Ipanema turns the unpredictable into predictable. The Ipanema Solution gives you full visibility over the performance of the WAN. It will guide you throughout the deployment of new applications and will allow you to make only the necessary adjustments to your WAN. Ipanema Optimization will also guarantee the quality of VoIP flows while making sure this new application does not endanger the performance of existing applications.
Ipanema will then deliver ongoing support to the application. It will give you visibility over the network contribution to the quality of calls using real-time computation of ITU’s Mean Opinion Score (MOS) through an advanced use of the E-Model.
With Ipanema, deploying VoIP becomes as easy as deploying any other new application.
