New Critical Application Deployment

If you are planning to roll-out a new critical application over your network (ERP, Citrix, etc.)…

You need Ipanema!

Your company has decided to roll-out a new critical application, such as an ERP, CRM, deployed either natively or through a client virtualization technology such as Citrix. They have been working on it for months.

You have only been marginally involved. You know, however, that the network's performance will be crucial for the overall application performance.

Now the time has come to roll-it out. You feel nervous.

  •   How will it behave?
  •   How will it impact the performance of other critical applications?
  •   You think that you will need 3 to 6 months and perhaps some consulting help to properly roll-out this new application.

After all, you will have to test the new application in the lab and collect network performance and capacity data to ensure that the network will support the new traffic. To be safe, you will run a pilot with a limited number of end-users; you will then design adequate policies that guarantee the new application performance while protecting existing ones. Finally, you will implement these policies device by device and monitor and manually adjust them. You will also most probably over-provision your links. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Should rolling-out a new application be that onerous and time consuming?

At Ipanema, we don't think so. We have created a system that makes rolling-out new critical applications easy and secure. Using the Ipanema Solution, you simply need to enter the resource requirements of the individual user of the new application (called application performance objectives) into the central management software and the system will take care of the rest. By utilizing its optimization function, the performance of the new critical applications will be guaranteed while still protecting the existing critical applications. If despite optimization, the bandwidth on some links is still insufficient, it will tell you so and only impact non-critical applications. You could then either relax non-critical applications service levels or increase the bandwidth in a very targeted and precise fashion.

According to Patrick Whiters, Guerbet's Network Manager, "With Ipanema, we were able to anticipate any potential problems our large-scale ERP deployment might have caused"

With the Ipanema Solution, rolling-out a new critical application becomes easy.
