Network Rightsizing is about optimizing the network cost versus performance trade off. It provides a direct and accurate relationship between the available bandwidth and the achievable application SLAs, using measurements of network capacity, user activity and Application Performance Objectives. Leveraging ANS’s QoS & Control capabilities, Network Rightsizing provides all the necessary information for an IT manager to decide the network sizing policy according to the budget constraints and to align it to the business requirements.
Ipanema’s Network Rightsizing enables various network access sizing policies:
- Usage-based sizing - This is the traditional way to size networks. This sizing ensures that the resource is sufficient to serve all applications, including recreational applications. Bandwidth demand is poorly controlled, leading to over-provisioning and useless expenses.
- Right-sizing - The performance is excellent for all critical business applications while occasional degradation is accepted for non-critical applications. Over-provisioning is eliminated since bandwidth is sized according to business needs only (i.e. Facebook and YouTube no longer lead the demand for network resources.)
- Under-sizing - The performance is acceptable only for critical business applications while serious brownouts are accepted for non-critical applications. Bandwidth costs are reduced to their very minimum at the risk of penalizing the users of non-critical applications.
